The Detroit Lions need all the help they can get at the running back position, even if it comes in the form of DeMarco Murray or Jonathan Stewart. But don’t think for a second the possible addition of one of those well-worn vets will change the team’s plans to draft a running back this spring.

The Lions are in overhaul mode with their league-worst rushing attack,Womens Jeff Heuerman Jersey, and there’s still a good chance they take a rusher in the first three rounds of April’s draft.

Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick remain under contract for 2018,Yes, but Abdullah’s yet to have even a 600-yard rushing season in his three-year career and Riddick has recurring wrist problems that cast doubt on his long-term future.

000-yard mark) at his pinnacle in 2014,Womens Marcus Mariota Jersey, leading the league in rushing (and threatening the magical 2,Murray’s had an up-and-down NFL career,Authentic DeMarco Murray Jersey, but struggling two of the last three years while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.

has even more mileage on his tires, a 2008 first-round pick,Authentic Corey Davis Jersey,Stewart, though he did spend a few seasons playing for new Lions offensive line coach (and former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator) Jeff Davidson early in his career.

and had his season cut short by a knee injury. Stewart,Womens Adoree' Jackson Jersey, averaged just 3.6 yards per carry, Murray ran for a career-worst 659 yards in 15 games, who completed a visit with the Lions on Monday and is now off to see the New York Giants, tied for the lowest mark of his career,Last year, averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry while splitting time with Christian McCaffrey.

Neither player put out great film in 2017, and both seem best suited for complementary roles going forward.

Riddick has no guaranteed money left on the deal he signed in 2016,Abdullah is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and no one sees Murray or Stewart as the long-term answer to a running game that’s been an issue since Barry Sanders eloped into retirement.

The Lions still need to find a lead back to build their ground game around, and the best chance to do that is somewhere near the top of the draft.

where the Lions have no chance of landing the latest generational prospect in Penn State’s Saquon Barkley,Not in Round 1, but maybe somewhere on Day 2 where there should be plenty of capable backs coming off the board.

As long as Matthew Stafford is under center,Authentic Jeff Heuerman Jersey, the Lions will be a pass-first team. That’s part of why drafting Derrius Guice or Ronald Jones — the draft’s second- and third-best backs — at No. 20 doesn’t make a whole lot of initial sense.

Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports reported the news. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the deal is worth $10 million and he could make up to $11 million in incentives.

Seferian-Jenkins set career highs in receptions and receiving yards in 2017,Authentic Marcus Mariota Jersey, which isn't saying too much following three largely underwhelming seasons to open his NFL career. He caught 50 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games for the Jets.

The 25-year-old missed the first two games while serving a suspension that stemmed from a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. He pleaded no contest to a charge of reckless driving in February 2017 after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The arrested dated all the way back to September 2016,Authentic Delanie Walker Jersey, which was the final straw that led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to release him two and a half years after selecting him in the second round of the 2014 draft.

840 yards and 21 touchdowns in his three years at Washington,Seferian-Jenkins was unquestionably one of the top tight ends in that year's draft class. He had 146 receptions for 1,Womens Delanie Walker Jersey, and he claimed the John Mackey Award as a junior in 2013.

However, Seferian-Jenkins' potential has failed to fully materialize in the NFL.

Back in November,Womens DeMarco Murray Jersey, he acknowledged he didn't have a strong relationship with Dirk Koetter,Womens Corey Davis Jersey, who was the Buccaneers offensive coordinator in 2015 and then head coach beginning in 2016.

"There was a definite rift," Seferian-Jenkins said last November, per NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes. "There were some things that went on that I didn't appreciate ... I felt disrespected. I didn't like it. It was hard for me to function. It was not a good situation for me."

Seferian-Jenkins went on to say playing for the Jets was a completely different situation,Authentic Adoree' Jackson Jersey, telling Hughes the team "was just like a family."

The 2017 season could represent Seferian-Jenkins starting to turn a corner, but he still has a long way to go to establish himself as a No. 1 tight end for an NFL team. Football Outsiders ranked him last in defense-adjusted yards above replacement among 51 qualified tight ends.

Even though Seferian-Jenkins was comfortable in the Jets' locker room, leaving New York could aid him in his overall development.

The Jets' quarterback situation has been a nightmare over the past few years, and there's no guarantee selecting a passer in the first round of the 2018 draft will provide immediate dividends.

While the first few days of 2018 NFL free agency have been somewhat quiet for the Oakland Raiders, the same can't be said about Thursday.

After releasing wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the Raiders officially signed former Green Bay Packers wideout Jordy Nelson. They also added former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin and Dallas Cowboys fullback Keith Smith.

Finally,Ian Rapoport broke the news that the Raiders are actually closing in on a deal with Whitehead, the Raiders have upped the visits as well, meeting with multiple players, a list that includes Detroit Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead and Houston Texans safety Marcus Gilchrist. And on Thursday afternoon, and it's expected to get done. This is a signing that would address a massive need for the Silver and Black.

Whitehead is an incredibly talented and young linebacker. He's great against the run, and the 27-year-old has played 93 games over six seasons since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
