Bennett and Baldwin recently participated in a town hall discussing several issues on CNN, but they've also been active in these conversations for a while now. Michael Bennett, and the team has met with law enforcement officials from the area to discuss social awareness. Now,Authentic Chris Godwin Jersey, they have taken the step to turn their attention toward making a difference.
we wanted to have an action item, 'How can I help,Authentic Kendell Beckwith Jersey, really allowing the name to speak for itself. It started here with the Seattle Seahawks players, we wanted to do something actionable,Authentic DeSean Jackson Jersey, and all the funds go to important programs for equality and justice, where can I donate,Authentic Vernon Hargreaves III Jersey, but also players have an opportunity to do so as well. Then secondly, we wanted to have a central,Authentic Noah Spence Jersey, unified effort, how can I do my part?' So we wanted to give them a place to do that,Authentic Roberto Aguayo Jersey," Baldwin said. "We've had a lot of requests from people outside of the building of,"First, the organization itself, and it's an action fund to put things into action. I thought it was really comprehensive, and a very collaborative effort on the part of a lot of guys in the locker room."
"This is the time, when is a better time than now to change the future?" Bennett added. "Now is when we act; we can't wait until things get so bad that it's too late to change."
we're talking about it,"We've been talking about this for a while," defensive end Cliff Avril said. "We've got a lot of leaders on our team and we just want to lead by example. Yeah, but we're also putting some action behind it. We truly believe that's the way to go about it."
Seahawks’ players start Equality & Justice for All Action Fund
In what they are calling “an effort to create lasting change and build a more compassionate and inclusive society” Seahawks’ players announced Friday they are launching the “Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund.”
The fund is designed “to support education and leadership programs addressing equality and justice.”
The team’s website bills the fund as “a tangible way for individuals or businesses to make a difference fighting injustice and inequality by supporting leadership and education programs.” Donations can be made at Seahawks.com/ActionFund.
While the fund was revealed less than a week after the Seahawks decided to stay in the locker room during the anthem prior to last Sunday’s game at Tennessee in reaction to comments made earlier by president Donald Trump critical of the league and its players, Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin said the idea has been in the works for roughly a year-and-a-half.
“I think it’s kind of been this whole process of when would be the right time because you need the momentum to kind of gain the funds as well,” Baldwin said. “So we thought that this was a unique and beautiful time to do it.”
The team says the fund “will be housed at the Seattle Foundation,” which it bills as “a nonprofit that manages nearly $1 billion in philanthropic investments.”
Baldwin said among topics that could be targets for funding is training for police officers particularly in the area of de-escalation.
“Law enforcement needs more money for the training change that is taking place so that’s one of the things that is on the docket that we are going to look into,” Baldwin said.
The fund is believed to be only one of its kind in the NFL. Baldwin said it is proof that Seahawks’ players are doing more than simply talking or protesting.
“This is just another action item for us,” Baldwin said. “This gives us an opportunity to move the conversation off the field and actually into our communities and allowing fans and people outside this building to interact and know what we have been doing and trying to accomplish and actually take part in doing it with us.”

Coach Pete Carroll on Friday said the fund is “aimed at an educational leadership approach with the thought of aiming all the funding towards equality and justice and our guys are really excited about that and I jumped to support it and help them get started and hopefully we will take this opportunity to really do work to make a difference. … Hopefully we will do a good job and be able to touch a lot of people.”
The team’s statement read that “an advisory board, comprised of players,Womens Chris Godwin Jersey, team leadership and business and community leaders will be formed in the coming week to steward the fund and determine how grants will be allocated to nonprofits.”
Baldwin and Carroll each said it remained unclear how the team will approach the anthem this week.
“I don’t know I haven’t put much thought into it,” Baldwin said after Friday’s practice. “We focused obviously on getting this together and then obviously my preparation for the game. That’s been vitally important too so really haven’t thought much about that,Womens Kendell Beckwith Jersey, probably will in the next couple days. But obviously we have some time to think about that.”

While some players took a knee following former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick's decision to do so last season, the protests grew after President Donald Trump criticized NFL players who chose to follow suit. Trump said owners should "fire" NFL players who protest the anthem and referred to them as "son[s] of b". Players responded by protesting en
Seattle Seahawks players release statement on anthem decision
The Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans players have officially made their intentions clear for the national anthem.
MMQB's Albert Breer initially reported the two side's decision.
" the Seahawks statement reads. "We will not stand for the injustice that has plagued people of color in our country. Out of love for our country and in honor of the sacrifices made on our behalf,"As a team,Womens Roberto Aguayo Jersey, we have to decided we will not participate in the national anthem, we unite to oppose those that would deny our most basic freedoms. We remain committed in continuing to work towards equality and justice for all."
The Titans statement was worded a bit differently but with a similar message, however.
"As a team, we wanted to be unified in our actions today," the Titans statement said. "The players jointly decided this was the best course of action. Our commitment to the military and our community is resolute and the absence of our team for the national anthem shouldn't be misconstrued as unpatriotic."
This protest will be the second time in as many years that the entire team has come together to demonstrate against injustice during the national anthem.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Michael Bennett have both been working publicly with community leaders to add action to their protests. |
