prospect development camps,It's the dead of the hockey offseason, sans for some major contract extensions, the time between free agency, and when training camps open. It's a major lull in the hockey news cycle, so it's the perfect time to create and debate arbitrary ranking lists.

The folks at NHL Network have been doing just that, going position by position, stirring riveting August debates on whether or not Henrik Lundqvist is ranked too low or Shea Weber is ranked too high. The types of heated disagreements that will turn any text thread into an awkward encounter at a Labor Day barbeque. The stakes have never been higher.

five players of Canadian teams make the list,In all, coming off a scoring title and Hart Trophy. At 20 years old and entering his third NHL season, including two in the top five. Some of them were very expected: Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid tops the list, McDavid has already established himself as the NHL's top talent.

the Oilers' Leon Draisaitl comes in at 15th. Much like Edmonton, adidas Blake Wheeler jersey,Fresh off signing an eight-year extension, which saw all of his numbers jump while playing steady minutes next to McDavid. It's fair to ask if Draisaitl is truly a center — he's split time in the middle and on the wing — but coming off a postseason in which he recorded a team-high 16 points in 13 games, adidas Patrik Laine jersey, this list put a lot of stock in Draisaitl's 2016-17 season, Draisaitl's most recent work reflects pretty well on him.

The final player in the top-20 and final Canadian to crack the ranks is Sean Monahan of the Calgary Flames. Another player who doesn't garner the national recognition playing in Calgary, adidas Dustin Byfuglien jersey, who turns 23 in October, Monahan ranks 29th in the NHL in total points (183), is entering his fifth pro season. Over the past three seasons though, Monahan, and 14th among centers.
