Here's your Saturday morning hockey show on 98.5 the Sports Hub where yours truly, Ryan Johnston, Billy Jaffe, David Backes' busy week and Boston's big game against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight among other things., Bob Beers and Judd Sirott all talked Bruins, Ryan Donato
speed and effectiveness for the Montreal Canadiens even as so many other things for them are spinning out of control.,Alex Galchenyuk has been regaining his rhythm
but he may be getting his mojo back for the Washington Capitals.,Braden Holtby has been one of a number of big-time NHL goalies that have struggled at times this season
the first time that's happened in more than 50 years.,It looks like there's never been a better time to be an NHL coach as all 31 coaches are going to keep their jobs through the season
Pro Hockey Talk has the details of Ilya Kovalchuk looking to return to the NHL next season after five years over in Russia.
little details to them.,For something completely different: Love these galleries that Anthony Breznican does at Entertainment Weekly to break down the new Star Wars/Marvel trailers when they finally drop on the Internet. There are such great
The Bruins will be without a couple more of their front-line guys at least through the weekend.
but he remained in the game and kept playing until he eventually had to exit in the third period as well.,Zdeno Chara and Jake DeBrusk were both missing from the morning skate Thursday at the Center and will miss games against the Panthers tonight and Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday with upper-body injuries sustained in the comeback win over Carolina. Chara tumbled upper body-first into the boards midway through the third period and appeared to be complaining of discomfort in the shoulder area on the bench before exiting for good. DeBrusk and Carolina's Elias Lindholm got tangled before the rookie crashed into the boards early in the Tuesday night game
The moment of truth for both will be when they get looked at by the Bruins doctors next week after returning to Boston.
"Upper body. Won't play tonight and won't play Saturday. We'll have a better idea on both of them next week once we're back in Boston,Authentic Kris Letang jersey, but once gets further evaluated we may get bad news. But that's kind of the initial reaction right now.," said coach Bruce Cassidy. "I can't really answer. I'm not worried it's long-term
"[The injuries] all seem to snowball at once. Two guys are out and another guy is questionable or probable for us,Authentic Jake Guentzel jersey, we've said it…somebody else goes in. Adam has been chomping at the bit to get back in, and we were already down two guys. But at the end of the day,Authentic Matt Murray jersey, and that's the way we try to look at it.", so he'll come in and contribute. We chose to sit Tommy Wingels the other night,Authentic Joe Pavelski jersey, so he's ready to go in. There is always a positive when a negative happens
Torey Krug also had an upper-body injury in the third period Tuesday, according to Cassidy. The Bruins called up Anton Blidh and Paul Postma in case they're needed with the recent rash of injuries and Cassidy is back to finagling with the lineup until he finds combos that will work., but he felt well enough to skate on Thursday morning and is "questionable-to-probable" vs. the Panthers
this showdown between the Lightning and Bruins is a pretty good one. It's the most interesting regular-season game so far this season and certainly worth watching.,Authentic Patrick Marleau jersey,As far as regular-season games go
But let's not get too carried away with what it all means and let's not read too much into the result.
it should be lots of fun. Two really good teams. The crowd will be into it. That combination is always a blast no matter what is at stake. And,Sure, there is a bit of added intrigue. The two are fighting for the division lead and seem to be on a collision course in the Stanley Cup playoffs.,Authentic Joe Thornton jersey, yeah
Saturday's game is still just a regular-season game. Regular-season hockey just isn't the same as playoff hockey.,But as much as we might want to attach a greater meaning to it
Plus, while the Lightning is still trying to incorporate a couple of new players into its lineup. What these teams look like and how they play Saturday will not be what they look like and how they play if they happen to meet in the postseason., the Bruins are missing some key pieces
the Lightning still has two regular-season games left against the Bruins.,And one other thing: after Saturday
having said all that and no matter how Saturday plays out,Now, here comes the part that Lightning fans aren't going to like:
If I'm the Lightning, I want no part of the Bruins come playoff time. Boston is the one team — the only team — I don't think the Lightning would beat in a seven-game series.
and it wouldn't be a Miracle on Ice if it goes on to win the Stanley Cup. But this gut feeling that Boston would win a seven-game series is more about the big,This Lightning team is outstanding, bad Bruins than it is about the Lightning.
The Eastern Conference is loaded with good teams.
Start with the two-time defending champion Penguins with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, who is playing as well as any player in the world at the moment. A similar Penguins team eliminated a similar Lightning team in the Eastern Conference final two years ago.
There are the Capitals. They have Alex Ovechkin, at times, who is still the best pure goal-scorer in the game. And the Caps are a team that, can give Tampa Bay fits physically.
Toronto is young and hungry. Florida plays the Lightning tough. Philadelphia was hot there for a while. The Blue Jackets have been hot of late. New Jersey's Taylor Hall has been a scoring machine.
that is a house of horrors for the Lightning. In 53 games including playoffs at Boston,Speaking of "in" Boston, the Lightning has won only eight times.
but when numbers are lopsided like that,Now,adidas Kris Letang jersey, you start to wonder if there is a psychological factor involved. (And, oh,adidas Jake Guentzel jersey, what happened 20 years ago should have no impact on today, before you ask, adidas Matt Murray jersey, the Bruins have won 26 of 49 games played at Tampa Bay.)
the Bruins are skilled at forward,Meantime, stingy on defense and tough in both.
Nikita Kucherov, adidas Joe Pavelski jersey,Look, Brayden Point, adidas Patrick Marleau jersey, this isn't to suggest that the Lightning has no chance against the Bruins in a seven-game series. When you have Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman and an improved defense with the addition of Ryan McDonagh and a big-time goalie in Andrei Vasilevskiy, you have a team good enough to beat anyone.
But if I was forced to bet everything I owned, adidas Joe Thornton jersey, I'd go with Boston in a seven-game series. The Bruins just seem to have the Lightning figured out.
unless the Leafs go on a tear and win the win division,The good news for Tampa Bay is, the Lightning will avoid having to play the Bruins in the first round. The best-case scenario is a team such as Toronto does Tampa Bay's dirty work and eliminates the Bruins before the Lightning has to play them.
