PFF: Eagles will have winning record; miss playoffs
With all the free agent and draft acquisitions (specifically on offense) this season, how good are the Eagles heading into 2017?
Pro Football Focus is impressed with the Eagles collection of talent, but isn't convinced (yet) that the team will make the playoffs this season. The football database has the Eagles finishing with a 9-7 season,Authentic DeSean Jackson Jersey, but finishing eighth in the NFC.
"Position by position,Authentic Marcus Mariota Jersey," wrote PFF's Nathan Jahnke. "One of the main things that held the team back in 2016 was Carson Wentz. Over the first five games of the season Wentz looked like one of the best rookie quarterbacks the league has seen,DeMarco Murray Jersey, the Eagles have one of the better rosters in the league, but from Week 7 on was among the lowest-graded.
"Typically you expect improvement from year one to two,Corey Davis Jersey, and the odds are even better after the addition of Alshon Jeffery. Since 2013,Adoree' Jackson Jersey, he has 2.15 yards per route run, which is 10th-best for wide receivers in that time. If both Wentz and the cornerbacks can take steps forward, this team could be much higher. If not it will be difficult to stand out in a competitive division."
Wentz finished with a 62.4 completion percentage, 3, 16 touchdowns,782 yards, 14 interceptions,DeSean Jackson Jersey,Marcus Mariota Jersey, and a 79.3 passer rating in his rookie season. The key to Wentz's success in 2016 was when Lane Johnson lined up at right tackle.
In the six games Johnson played,Authentic DeMarco Murray Jersey, Wentz completed 64.9 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions for a 96.7 passer rating. Wentz had six touchdowns and 12 interceptions when Johnson served his 10-game suspension.
With Johnson back in the fold along with the free agent acquisitions of Jeffery,Authentic Corey Davis Jersey, Torrey Smith and LeGarrette Blount,Authentic Adoree' Jackson Jersey, Wentz has the offensive talent needed to take the next step in 2017.
Pro Football Focus had the Eagles tied with the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings for the final playoff spot in the NFC (all with 9-7 records). The Panthers won the five-way tiebreaker.
The Eagles finished second in the NFC East in PFF's first predictions. Dallas won the NFC East at 10-6, while New York finished 8-8 and Washington 7-9. |
